History of National Higher Education Day  

Izamar Olaguez and Marcie Hronis established National Higher Education Day in 2015. The primary goal of this holiday is to encourage and inspire the next generation to pursue higher education. Numerous academic institutions and thousands of students come together each year to promote the value of higher education. Many academics are open about their academic successes and encourage others to create objectives for themselves in order to succeed in life.

In 1965, the Higher Education Act was approved by the federal government. The main goals of signing this act were to enhance higher education offerings at American educational institutions and provide financial aid to individuals who could not pay for college expenses.

Governments at the federal and international levels supported the Higher Education Act. To assist students who wish to enrol in colleges and universities in order to pursue higher education, certain governments have also created programmes along similar lines. National Higher Education Day’s main objective is to increase access to higher education. In order to do this, students must be encouraged and given financial support to engage in undergraduate or graduate programmes.

Facts About Higher Education in India

According to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), 2020–2021, which was published in January 2023, there was a 7.5% rise in student enrollment nationwide from 2019–20 to 2020–21, bringing the total to 4.13 crore. Notably, female enrollment in higher education climbed from 45% to 49% of all enrollments in 2020–21, and the Gross Enrolment Ratio for all enrollments (according to the 2011 Census) improved by nearly 2 points to 27.3.
