2-Minute Speech on National Mathematics Day

‘Hello and welcome to everyone present here. Today, I stand before you to present my speech on National Mathematics Day. On 26th December 2011, the Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh gave a speech at Madras University, where he declared 22nd December as the National Mathematics Day, which also marked the 125th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the famous Indian mathematician. In 2012, the ₹4 Indian stamp was released by India Post, which featured Srinivasa Ramanujan.

Since its commencement in 2012, educational institutions in India have been encouraged to organize educational events for students. The celebrations of this day reached their peak in 2017 when a public park was opened to honor this great mathematician in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. The park was named Ramanujan Math Park.

Srinivasa Ramanujan was a prodigy who at the age of 15, obtained a copy of the Synopsis of Elementary Results in Pure and Applied Mathematics of George Shoobride Carr. His great works are in the area of Reimann series, functional equations of the zeta function, continued fractions, and elliptic integrals. Srinivasa’s first paper was published in the Journal of the Indian Mathematical Society in 1911. He received his BA degree in research in 1916 from Cambridge University.

He independently organized around 4000 original mathematical theorems, which paved the way for modern mathematics. Srinivasa’s inspirational story has successfully highlighted hundreds of millions of students all over the world. 

One of the first problems posted by Mr Ramanujan was to solve cubic equations. 

His great contribution to the field of mathematics will always be remembered by the entire world. Every student must take inspiration from S Ramanujan to achieve greatness in life. He was able to solve complex problems without the use of any calculator. Today, 22nd December 2023 will mark the 137th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
