Long Speech on Sustainable Agriculture

Good morning to the authorities present here and my dear friends. Today. I, Kevin, am going to present before you a speech on sustainable agriculture. I hope that I will be able to convey my thoughts to you on this great topic.

In today’s world, when technology is developing at a fast rate, the development of the same in technological terms has met the demand for food in terms of its production, but the distribution of the same is not even. The depletion of non-renewable resources, rising costs, climate change, etc. have finally brought us to look for a more sustainable option for food production. Hence, to over the current crisis, sustainable agriculture is the best option. It is not only sustainable but will also serve as a means of eradicating poverty and maintaining a low-carbon and green economy.

In the developing countries, the most prevailing problem is of undernourishment. All around the world, almost 20% i.e. 5 billion people are undernourished. With the increase in food consumption of grains, dairy products, etc. the supply of food thus has to be increased. The increase in demand for food is because of the increase in the population of the world and changes in the dietary habits of the people. The problem in the food supply and starvation has come up because of the increase in the population and unequal distribution of food. All these issues can be fixed with the help of the processes and techniques of sustainable agriculture. However, it needs to be emphasised that sustainable agriculture does not follow any fixed set of rules or technology for the process of production. This kind of agriculture shows a way towards sustainability.

The judicious usage of renewable resources along with the discipline for the consumption rates is what makes the practice of sustainable agriculture so effective. So sustainable agriculture is effective if there is sustainable consumption.

The governments of developing countries are hardly taking any measures over the depletion of food for the future. Green politics have become a part of farming. The advocates of green politics believe that a great deal of change in the conventional methods of agriculture is required to bring sustainable agriculture into effect. Thus sustainable agriculture is the answer to the many problems the world is facing w.r.t to the production and supply of food. If implemented properly, sustainable agriculture can revolutionise the practices of farming and agriculture and bring food to every individual in the world thus eradicating hunger.

Importance of Sustainable Agriculture

It basically is the process of farming by using eco-friendly methods in order to understand and maintain a relationship between the environment and the organisms that inhabit it. In sustainable agriculture, animal husbandry is combined with agriculture in order to form a simultaneous process. It can be defined as the amalgamation of 3 elements namely:

  • profitability,
  • ecological health, and
  • propagating equality.

The principle on which sustainable agriculture is based is not wasting any resources that can become of use to future generations. You can say that the main idea on which sustainable agriculture rests is the guardianship of natural resources and individuals. Now, it is important to understand how sustainable agriculture and technology go together.

Bonus- Sustainable Agriculture and Technology

Sustainable agriculture is target-oriented. Using biological pesticides, insecticides, and low-chemical fertilisers, agriculture takes place. Pest control, which is biological and insect-specific is used. Micro-sprinklers are used to directly water the roots of the plants which does not result in the flooding of the field completely. This ensures that the land is used for both, plant cultivation and animal husbandry.

Green technology is adapted by sustainable agriculture which acts as a means to reduce the wastage of non-renewable energy and hence, increase production. This in turn links the sustainable agriculture technology to the overall development of the nation hence, leading to solving the socio-economic problem. “The productivity increases in possible through environment-friendly and profitable technologies.” according to the UN reports.
