NCERT Maths Class 7 Chapters’ Brief Introduction

Here are the learning outcomes expected after you study the chapters given in the NCERT Maths Class 7 book.

Chapter 1 Integers 

Chapter 1 of class 7, Integers involves a higher understanding of the concepts of integers than you studied in class 6. In this chapter, we will study more about the mathematical operations and their properties on integers. We will study the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers and their respective properties. 

Chapter 2 Fractions and Decimals

Chapter 2 of NCERT Maths Class 7 deals with the study of Fractions and Decimals. In the previous classes, we have learned the addition and subtraction of fractions and decimals. In this chapter, we will learn the multiplication and division operations of fractions and decimals.

Chapter 3 Data Handling 

Chapter 3 of Class 7 Maths deals with Data Handling. In the class 6 chapter on data handling, we have learned how to collect and organize data and form bar graphs from the data. In this chapter, we will go a step ahead, we will learn to collect and organize data and determine the arithmetic mean, median, and mode for a given large data. 

Chapter 4 Simple Equations 

Chapter 4 of Class 7 Maths deals with the simple equations and their solutions. In this chapter, we learn to move a number from one side of the equation to the other side. Students learn to transpose numbers to carry out functions of additions and subtractions. Students learn to solve simple equations to determine an unknown number and use these equations to solve real-life problems.

Chapter 5 Lines and Angles

Chapter 5 Lines and Angles deals with the study of different angles, their properties, and their measurements. The chapter includes concepts like supplementary angles, complementary angles, related angles, and more. 

Chapter 6 The Triangle and Its Properties 

This chapter deals entirely with different triangles and the properties of the triangles such as calculating the median of a triangle, the altitude of the triangle, the exterior and interior angles of a triangle, and the sum of the length of two sides of a triangle.

Chapter 7 Comparing Quantities 

Chapter 7 Comparing Quantities deals with the comparison of different quantities. The concept of percentage is introduced to students for making comparisons. In this, students are taught the conversion of fractions and decimals into percentages and vice-versa.

Chapter 8 Rational Numbers 

The chapter comes with the properties of rational numbers. Here, students learn to plot the rational numbers on a number line, rational numbers in standard form, positive and negative rational numbers, comparison between rational numbers, and more.

Chapter 9 Perimeter and Area 

In this chapter, students will get a chance to excel in their knowledge of the area of different figures. Unlike the areas of the rectangle and square, the area of a triangle can’t be calculated by a direct formula at all times. For this reason, students will learn different ways to calculate the area of the triangle by drawing a perpendicular to the base, and the area of a polygon, and will get introduced to the circles, their properties, and measurements. 

Chapter 10 Algebraic Expressions 

In this chapter, students will study the topic of Algebraic Expressions in further detail. They will learn about the terms of an expression, the coefficients, monomials, binomials, trinomials, and polynomials in brief. Later in the chapter, students learn to determine the solution of an algebraic expression.

Chapter 11 Exponents and Powers 

The chapter introduces students to exponents. The first exercise deals entirely with the concept of exponents and solving various questions based on them. From the first exercise onwards, students learn about the different laws of exponents. The whole chapter deals with determining exponents and their powers.

Chapter 12 Symmetry 

This chapter lays a very important foundation for determining the symmetry of some shapes in real life. This chapter also lays a foundation for their higher studies in the STEM field. The chapter introduces the concept of the line of symmetry and then uses it to determine the symmetry in regular polygons. Students also move to an advanced phase of the chapter in the later part in which they learn about the rotational symmetry, and then the chapter is concluded with a difference between the line and the rotational symmetry.

Chapter 13 Visualising Solid Shapes  

In this chapter, students learn the concepts of solid or 3-dimensional shapes. Students get taught the concepts of faces, vertices, and edges of some 3-D figures. An interesting topic of creating these 3-D shapes is also taught in the middle half of this chapter, this section teaches the students to make accurate measurements and determine how many of the faces, vertices, and edges are required to create a certain 3D figure. The chapter then concludes with the concepts of oblique sketches, isometric sketches, and the different viewing angles of the solid shapes.
