Full Form of DC

The full form of DC is Direct Current. Current that travels in a straight line is known as DC, or direct current. Direct current sources include most batteries, solar cells, and fuel cells. To run the majority of appliances, DC current must subsequently be transformed into Alternating Current (AC). The majority of power supply devices provide direct current to the consumers because DC delivers a reliable voltage source. Although it has a uniform voltage and steady flow, it cannot be carried over great distances. Therefore, DC is mostly used for storage, whereas AC is used for live plugs. For instance, DC power is used to store energy in portable generators, mobile and laptop batteries, and other devices.

AC to DC and DC to AC Conversion

  • A rectifier can be used to change alternating current (AC) into direct current.
  • An inverter can be used to change the direct current (DC) into alternating current.

Benefits of DC

  • When charged from DC, the electrical device is more powerful.
  • If the voltage is lower than 48V, there is a lower risk of electrical shock.
  • More power can be transmitted over longer distances with less electricity lost using a DC transmission line. Additionally, it improves performance and brings down gearbox costs.
  • DC transmission lines require less ground and narrower structural support than AC lines.
