Hyderabad has served as the joint capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for ten years and now it has come to an end. This shift follows the guidelines set out in the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014.
The Act says that Hyderabad could serve as the common capital for a maximum of ten years, starting from June 2nd, 2014. After this period, Hyderabad would become Telangana’s sole capital, while Andhra Pradesh should have a newly appointed capital.
Andhra Pradesh, however, faces an ongoing dilemma regarding its permanent capital. Legal disputes concerning Amaravati and Visakhapatnam are yet to be resolved. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has proposed a potential solution: Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital, Amaravati as the legislative seat, and Kurnool as the judicial capital. This plan hinges on his re-election plans.
