Why was POCSO introduced?
India is a country with 472 million children ages usually below 18, which is why it should have been an integral part of the nation that should be protected. Under the careful readings of Article 21 of the Constitution of India, it promises protection for children. Before this POCSO Act, the only specific piece of legislation against child abuse that was prevalent was the Goal Children’s Act, of 2003.

Features of the POCSO Act
- Any individual below 18 years of age falls under the category of children.
- Any and every kind of Sexual harassment is included including child pornography, penetrative and non-penetrative assault.
- It also takes into account any close or not close people who have committed this crime even in the case of the mentally ill child.
- A police personnel is hired for the child to protect the individual at this stage.
- The whole process is child-friendly or at least made child-friendly and the case is taken care of within the first year of the case registration.
- In such cases, the authority to make the rules only lies in the hands of the central government.
