The full form of VIBGYOR is Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. Whenever we think about a rainbow our mind tends to create a vibrant, captivating and colorful image arcing in the sky. There are 7 colors in the rainbow that is generally abbreviated as VIBGYOR. The violet color appears in the innermost part of the rainbow whereas the red color is on the outermost arc. The acronym VIBGYOR helps us to remember the order of the colors in the rainbow.
The colors of the rainbow are created by the reflection, refraction and dispersion of light. When the light passes through the water droplets it results in a spectrum of light in the sky i.e. a rainbow.

Light travels in the form of electromagnetic radiation and it comprises various wavelengths. Every color has a different wavelength. VIBGYOR comes under the visible light region of the spectrum. As the full form of VIBGYOR suggests 7 different colors, it together forms the white light. The speed of different colors depends on the wavelength spectrum. Red color has the longest wavelength but possesses the lowest speed. On the other hand, violet light has the shortest wavelength and possesses the highest speed.
When the white light is refracted through the prism, it breaks and gets scattered into its seven constituent colors that is abbreviated as VIBGYOR. It happens due to variances in the speeds and wavelengths of each color which result in various levels of refraction. Thus the result is the formation of seven colors. LIkewise, a rainbow is also formed in the sky.
