Biography of HC Verma
HC Verma was born in Darbhanga, Bihar on the 3rd of April 1952 to Ramvati Verma and Ganesh Prasad Verma, a teacher, who was also the one who inspired him.
- In his early years, academics were not easy for Verma, even with his father being a teacher.
- However, during his B.Sc. at Patna Science College, things changed for him due to the college’s faculty.
- His hard work and newfound passion for physics drove him to become a top student.
- He graduated with third rank and a B.Sc. (Honours) degree from Patna University.
- Thereafter, Verma completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur.
The career of HC Verma
Verma’s career began as a lecturer at Patna Science College in the early 1980s. He dedicated the next fifteen years to the institution.
- In 1994, he became an assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
- During his tenure at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur he was a researcher in experimental nuclear physics.
- Thereafter verma published 139 research papers.
- Apart from the world of physics, Verma co-founded Shiksha Sopan in 2001. It is a non-profit organisation(NGO) which aims to uplift underprivileged children living near the IIT, Kanpur.
- Verma also established the National Anveshika Network of India (NANI) in 2011 with the backing of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT).
- As NANI’s national coordinator, he managed the establishment of 22 Anveshikas across India.
- Verma retired from IIT Kanpur in June 2017, hence leaving a legacy of over six hundred low-cost physics experiments designed for classroom use.
