Eligibility Criteria for IIT Kanpur Summer Internship 2024
The IIT Kanpur Summer Internship program 2024, SURGE, has different eligibility criteria depending on whether you are an Indian student from another institution or a student from a SAARC country.
For Indian Students (except IIT Kanpur)
- You must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at a recognized Indian university or institute.
- B.Tech/BE/B-Arch/BS (3rd year completed),
- Five year degree program (3rd year completed, 4th year completed)
- B.Sc/B.A. (2nd year completed)
- M.Sc. 2-Year (1st year completed)
- You need to have a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 or higher.
- All applicants are expected to submit a research proposal, a current transcript, and a recommendation letter.
For IIT Kanpur Students
- You must be enrolled in a bachelor’s, Dual Degree, or Master’s degree program at a recognized Indian university or institute.
- B.Tech/BS (2nd,3rd year completed),
- Dual Degree (2nd, 3rd, 4th year),
- M.Sc. 2-Year (1st year)
- You need to have a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 5.5 or higher.
NOTE: Participants in IITK do not need a letter of recommendation (LOR), but they do need to list the names of two possible references (IITK Faculty) on the entry form. These names can be checked as needed.
IITK participants cannot do both the SURGE-2024 PROJECT and the SUMMER COURSE at the same time. However, students whose CPI is 8.5 or higher are allowed to take one summer course along with the SURGE-2024 project.
For Students from SAARC Countries (Nepal and Bhutan specifically mentioned)
- You must be enrolled in a relevant undergraduate program (3rd or 4th year of a five-year program, or 2nd year of a regular bachelor’s program, or 1st year of a master’s program) at a recognized university in a SAARC country.

- Opening of Online Registration: March 18, 2024
- Application Deadline: Extended to April 3rd, 2024 (midnight).
- Internship Period: May 10th, 2024 to July 12th, 2024. This eight-week program allows you to fully immerse yourself in research activities.

Application Process For IIT Kanpur Summer Internship Programme 2024
- First, eligible candidates are required to register online through the official website at https://surge.iitk.ac.in/app/.
- IITK: Only IITK Students can apply.
- NON-IITK: Only Indian students from various Indian Institutions can apply.
- SAARC: Only students of SAARC countries (from Nepal, and Bhutan) can apply.
- Complete the registration form in all respects.
- After completion of registration, your online application will be sent to your registered email address containing login credentials.
- Now pay the Registration fee (Non-refundable) of Rs 750/- (only for NON-IITK students).
- After completion of payment please note down the Transaction ID and save the payment receipt in .pdf format for future reference.
- Now log your credentials through this official link https://surge.iitk.ac.in/app/ received in your registered email ID.
- Now you need to enter the Transaction ID and upload the payment receipt in .pdf format (for Non-IITK students only).
- Also, upload your all relevant documents.
- After the final submission, you will receive an email on your registered email intimating the successful completion of the online registration form along with the generated Application Number.
