In 1864, the Nevada Constitution called for the establishment of a "State University" that would teach agriculture, mechanic arts, and mining. The University of Nevada, Reno was established ten years later. The Institution of Nevada, Reno, has delivered on its promise of delivering a better future for Nevada inhabitants since its founding in 1874 as the state's first university. The University has academic affiliations with Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) and Space-grant. It is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
