The University of Missouri was established in 1839 and was the first Public University in the West of the Mississippi River. The University of Missouri was home to the first Journalism School in the world. A land-grant institution, the University of Missouri is one of the 65 universities across the USA and Canada to be part of the Association of American Universities. Popularly known as the Mizzou, the University has Trueman, the Tiger as its mascot that embodies its bold spirits. The University of Missouri ranks #122 nationally by the US News and World Report 2022 University rankings. It has also been ranked in the bracket #501-600 globally by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings

Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses

The campuses of the University of Missouri are located just south of downtown Columbia and are maintained as a botanical garden. The campus is divided into two parts, Red campus, which comprises mostly brick buildings, and the White campus, which consists of the new buildings. These are mainly made from native Missouri limestone. The University of Missouri is structured into 12 Academic Schools and Colleges that offer more than 300 degree programs, including 95+ undergraduate programs and 200+ graduate programs. Further, the University offers 69 Doctoral degrees, and 70+ certificate programs in addition to Continuing Professional education programs. 

Accomplishments and Alumni 

The University of Missouri was the home to the world’s first journalism school. It also became the first public university west of the Mississippi River. Since its founding in 1839, the University of Missouri has had some historical landmarks like becoming home to the first vaccine virus laboratory in the US in 1885 and identifying and eradicating cattle ticks in 1893. The University has had a long list of accomplishments and an even greater list of alumni. WIth a massive alumni network of 344,000+ around the world, the University of Missouri has produced graduates in the likes of Brad Pitt, Actor and Producer, Cal Fussman, New York Times Bestselling Author, Linda Bell Blue, Entertainment Tonight Executive Producer, Bill Morgan, Co-founder, Vice Chairman and President of Kinder Morgan and several other acclaimed personalities in Arts and Entertainment, Business, Science, Sports and Government and Public Service.

The University of Missouri ranks above average at overall student diversity. More than 31,000 students from 50 States and over 100 countries study at the University of Missouri every year. Around 6.1% of the student body is composed of international students. Many prominent companies visit the campus for recruitment every year. The University of Missouri also conducts many placement and recruitment fairs to help the student get recruited.
