During the demise of the coal and steel industries in the Ruhr region, the University of Dortmund was established in 1968. Its founding was regarded as a crucial step in the economy's transition from heavy industries to technology. Its affiliation is with UA Ruhr - University Alliance Ruhr. Tu Dortmund University has 16 faculties that cover a variety of academic fields, including science, engineering, social sciences, and culture studies.
