Manchester Metropolitan University is a leading, modern research university that was established in 1824 as Manchester Mechanics Institute. Since then, with the founding of various Schools of specializations, one after the other, Manchester Met has today, emerged as a world-class University in the UK, educating over 40,000 students. It embodies the global spirit of the city of Manchester while resolving the city’s social, cultural, economic and environmental issues through its innovative research. An internationally well-connected University, Manchester Met is affiliated with University Alliance (UA), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the North West Universities Association (NWUA), European University Association (EUA), and the Association of MBAs in addition to several academic, research, and corporate partnerships. The Times Higher Education ranks Manchester Met in the bracket #601-800 in its 2022 World University Rankings while the University is placed in the band #801-1000 in QS World University Rankings 2022.
Infrastructure, Campus and Courses
Manchester Metropolitan University campus is a modern campus, reflective of the cosmopolitan city of Manchester itself. Composed of modernized study and leisure spaces, the Manchester Met campus consists of world-class sports facilities including a swimming center and a library with a vast range of print and digital publications and other resources. Students can soak in the Manchester sunshine at the All Saints’ Park, or at the landscaped area near the Brooks Building on the campus. In 2011, the university announced a £350 million investment program for the largest physical change to its estate since its foundation. The infrastructure of Manchester Met is particularly known for the Statue of John Dalton, the Manchester School of Art building, the Grosvenor Building and the Righton Building. The University offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs spanning 40 diverse subject areas through 32 Departments and Schools and Professional support services organized into 6 specialized Faculties namely, Arts and Humanities, Law and Business, Education, Health, Psychology and Social Care and Science and Engineering.
