History, Affiliations and Rankings

Hanyang University is a South Korean private research university. The name Hanyang comes from the Joseon Dynasty's previous name for Seoul, which was Hanyang. The university was founded as an engineering school in 1939. It was the first college in the country to offer engineering and architecture programmes, and it is frequently ranked among the top STEM universities in the country. The university is officially recognized by the Ministry of Education of Korea. According to the QS World Rankings 2022, the university is ranked #156 and #351-400 as per THE World University Rankings 2022. Furthermore, the U.S. News Best Global Universities places the university at #448 in the world.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The main campus is in Seoul, with a satellite campus in Ansan called the Education Research Industry Cluster (ERICA campus). There are 15 colleges and 60 departments on the Seoul campus. It consists of a number of research centres based on various academic subjects. Hanyang Women's University and Hanyang Cyber University are among more than 60 buildings on the Seoul campus. In 2009, in honour of HYUN's 70th anniversary, a new administration building was built. In the same year, the Center for Students with Disabilities was created. Hanyang University's ERICA campus was recognised as a government-supported public bicycle pilot school in 2009, and infrastructure and bicycles, including public bicycle systems and storage stations, were donated. There are 9 colleges and 42 departments on the ERICA Campus. The Education Research Industry Cluster Program, which is aimed at developing vocational skills, is well-known on the ERICA Campus. Hanyang University (HYU) offers courses and programmes in a variety of fields that lead to officially recognised higher education degrees such as bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees. The Seoul campus of HYU offers degrees in Engineering, Social Sciences, Medicine, Humanities, International Studies, Education, Public Policy, among others. The ERICA Campus offers degrees in Pharmacy, Engineering Sciences, Language & Cultures, Marketing, Sports & Arts, etc. 

Accomplishments & Alumni 

In 2006, Hanyang was chosen as one of twenty-eight project teams for the Brain Korea (BK21) Phase II project, which is the second stage of the Korean government-sponsored effort to build and promote world-class research universities. Between 2006 and 2009, Hanyang ranked first among Korean institutions in terms of technology transfer income, generating more than 10 billion won. Hanyang runs the Intractable Neurological Disorders Cell Therapy Center. In addition to this, the university also has an extensive list of alumni. Some of the notable names are Hong Nam-ki (Minister of Economy and Finance & Deputy Prime Minister of South Korea), Choo Mi-ae (Minister of Justice of South Korea), Jang Keun-suk (South Korean Actor), Im-Jong-Seok (South Korean Politician). 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Each year, Hanyang University welcomes over 3,000 international students and sends over 3,300 students on study abroad programmes. Hanyang University had 777 partner universities in 76 countries as of 2018. Hanyang University promotes cultural diversity at the campus by encouraging international admissions.
