Situated in the heart of Omaha, Creighton University was established on September 2, 1878. Started as a Creighton College, the main idea behind the establishment of this institution goes to Mary Lucretia Creighton whose last wish was to establish a school in memory of her husband and Omaha businessman, Edward Creighton. Edwardβs brother, John A Creighton was known for taking the university above the clouds during the first prominent years with an aim to create an atmosphere of independent academic learning. In 1958, the college was divided into two parts, a Prep School and Creighton University.
Under University of Creighton, there are several colleges and schools including Heider College of Business, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Nursing, School of Dentistry, School of Pharmacy & Health Professions, School of Medicine, Graduate School and School of Law. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programs in all disciplines based on interests and capabilities of the students. Apart from this, University of Creighton also offers various certification courses in different disciplines. In order to cultivate the interests of the students with respect to her academic life, the university also has a variety of society and honors like Phi Beta Kappa β National Honor Society, Alpha Sigma Nu β Jesuit Honor Society, Sigma Pi Sigma β Physics, Psi Chi β Psychology, Beta Alpha Psi β Accounting, Eta Sigma Phi β Classics, Alpha Psi Omega β Theatre, Sigma Theta Tau β Nursing, Phi Sigma β Biology, Phi Sigma Tau β Philosophy, Pi Sigma Alpha β Political Science and Sigma Tau Delta β English.
The main campus, which is approximately 140 acres, is located just outside Omaha business district and is well known for its natural scenic view. With an acceptance rate of 72%, there are total 8,910 students enrolled and 960 academic staff.
