The Zonta International Foundation is a worldwide organisation that has several clubs across various continents. The foundation offers the Young Women in Public Affairs Awards (YWPA) to recognise the achievements of young ladies in the public frontier. This is a highly selective and prestigious award that is given to young women whose passion is to serve humanity and the community in general. 

This program operates at the Zonta club which was established in the year 1990. The foundation has given around 1,054 awards to date which is US$1,303,750. These awards have been received by 882 young women from across 60 countries.

Eligibility Criteria for Young Women in Public Affairs Award

The Young Women in Public Affairs Awards (YWPA) has a fixed eligibility criteria as decided by the Zonta International Foundation. Candidates interested in this scholarship can acquaint themselves with the eligibility criteria, as noted below:

• The scholarship program is only open for female candidates who belong to the age group of 16-19 years.
• Previous recipients of the award are not eligible to apply or renew. 
• The applicants must be students at a school or college which comes under a Zonta district/region. 
• The applicants can also be studying elsewhere but should be a citizen of a Zonta country. 
• The applicants have to show an active commitment to volunteerism as well as volunteer leadership achievements.
• Any paid or unpaid work experience in a local government, student government or workplace leadership.
• The applicant must have some background knowledge of Zonta International and its related programs. 
• The applicant must support Zonta International’s mission of empowering women worldwide through their service. 

Application Process for Young Women in Public Affairs Award

The young women who want to apply for the Young Women in Public Affairs Awards (YWPA) can follow the following steps given below to apply for the awards:

Step 1: The applicant must locate their nearest Zonta Club.

Step 2: The applicant should then contact the club for the deadline of the application. 

Step 3: The applicant should download the application form from the website of the Zonta International Foundation. 

Step 4: The applicants are supposed to fill in the application form carefully and submit it at their nearest Zonta Club.

Step 5: The applicant needs to submit the required documents for the verification process. All documents have to be in English.

Selection Process for Young Women in Public Affairs Award

The applicants will be shortlisted based on their merit, their commitment and volunteerism for public services. Each Zonta club reviews the applications they have received along with the supporting documents and based on the individual’s merit, one candidate will be selected. 

Each Zonta club selects its winner and the entry goes to the Zonta Governor or the regional representative. In the end, the awards committee chooses a total of 10 international recipients from the district. After the consent, the Zonda Foundation provides the Young Women in Public Affairs Awards (YWPA) and certificates to the winners.
