Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is provided by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission as a contribution to developing the Commonwealth countries. The scholarship aims to provide training to skilled professionals/academics who otherwise may need help to afford to study in the UK. Therefore, the scholarship is open to postgraduate students from developing countries. It is a fully funding scholarship that is available for 12 months to the selected beneficiaries. The deadline for the scholarship application is 14th December 2023. The participating universities do the initial selection process. Later, the beneficiaries are approved by the CSC.
The eligibility criteria for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship are as follows. Note: India is one of the eligible countries for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship.
- Must be a citizen and a permanent resident of one of the eligible commonwealth country
- The applicant must hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honors standard, or a lower second-class degree and an MA degree. (by September 2024)
- Moreover, the applicant must not have studied/worked for more than a year in a high-income country.
- The education (UK) should be unaffordable to the applicant without the scholarship.
- Additionally, the applicant must provide all the relevant documents
- The CSC application does not have an age limit. The applicant must be available to study in the UK in the academic year September 2024.
The benefits of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship are as follows:
- The entire tuition fee for the academic year
- Airfare expenses, thesis grant, and study travel grant
- Additionally, a stipend of £1,652 per month is available
- Contribution towards the cost of a mandatory tuberculosis (TB) test
- Warm clothing allowance
- Moreover, a child allowance of £576.61 per month for the first child, and £143 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16. (Only of the scholar has children and is widowed/divorced or is a single parent).
- Financial support for the scholar’s disability
The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is only available to full-time students. The participating UK universities with conduct their recruitment process for the scholarship. The CSC puts forward the list of selected applicants based on the applicant’s academic merit, research proposal, and potential for developing their home country.
