Refer to the following points to get a solid idea of what to do in the first week of your DET exam preparation.

  • Dedicate your first week to thoroughly understanding the DET exam format and its intricacies. This will give you a solid foundation by familiarizing yourself with the marking scheme, question types, time allocation per question, and overall difficulty level. Knowing what to expect will significantly enhance your Duolingo English Test experience.
  • Tackling numerous practice tests will provide a comprehensive understanding of your strengths and weaknesses. By pinpointing areas that need improvement, you can focus your studies on rectifying those shortcomings.  Practice under timed conditions to build your ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure. This will boost your confidence in tackling challenging questions within the allotted timeframe.

The second week of the Duolingo English Test preparation must be spent on tweaks and revisions. Here’s how you should spend your second week of DET preparation:

  • Develop a habit of daily reading, immersing yourself in diverse written materials like articles, novels, and more. This not only broadens your vocabulary but also hones your grammar passively. Extend this immersion to a variety of materials like podcasts, movies, and TV shows. By surrounding yourself with an extensive range of  English content, you’ll gain a natural understanding of how words and phrases function in everyday contexts. Even if you encounter unfamiliar vocabulary, exposure to its usage in conversations will provide valuable clues to its meaning and application.
  • Set timers whilst solving sample papers. Doing so will improve your overall speed and accuracy. It will even improve your time-management skills, which can be a life-saver during the actual exam.
