What is PTE Academic Exam?
PTE Academic is an online Computer Based Test of two hours accepted in universities and countries worldwide as a credible English proficiency test. The PTE Academic tests are not designed for high-level English, this test is focussed on day-to-day interactions and commonly used vocabulary.
The PTE English Proficiency exam is a multi-level marking system conducted completely online and the results are therefore declared within 2 business days. The exam evaluates the Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking skills of a candidate.
PTE Academic Exam Latest Updates
On November 16 2021 Pearsons launched the ‘PTE at Home’ test to beat the Covid-based restrictions in the conduction of exams. A candidate can now sit at home and give their online test with the required gadgets like Computer, Wifi, Microphone, and Camera.
The PTE exam fee is now INR 12,457.63 for Indian Students and an additional cost of taxes of INR 3443.37 makes it INR 15,00. The candidates have to pay this fee while booking their slots. According to experts, a candidate should book their PTE Academic Exam slot 2 months prior to the targetted University’s first admission deadline.

PTE Academic Exam Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for the PTE Academic exam are important to make sure you are eligible to sit for the exam and also to have all the required documents to prove your eligibility. Here is a go-through list of eligibility for the PTE Academic Exam 2023.
- The candidate must be above 16 years of age to sit for the exam.
- If the candidate is below 18 years of age, he/she must have a signed consent form from parents or a guardian.
- There is no minimum educational qualification required to give the test, as listed by the Pearsons PLC Group.
- The Pearson Test is eligible in countries like the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
- There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can appear for the PTE Academic test.
PTE Exam Dates Slot booking
The registration for PTE should be completed at least 2 weeks before the exam dates. The candidates must have a valid photo ID and a valid Indian Passport for registration. Both of these have to be presented before the examiner on the day of the test. In case of invalid documents, the candidate will be disqualified from the test. Given below are the steps to register for PTE Academic Exam 2023.
- Go to the official website of the PTE Exam.
- Enter your details and create a Pearson account.
- Within 48 hours, Pearsons will send an official mail with login details.
- Search for your nearest PTE Exam centre, and also select a date and time for your examination.
- Submit your preferences and if the slots you chose are available, you will be taken to the payment portal.
- Pay the application fee and confirm your booking.

The PTE test is designed to test the overall command of a person in the English Language. The exam is of 2 hours duration out of which the question focused on speaking and writing is for 54-67 minutes, reading is for 29 – 30 minutes, and Listening skills are for 30 – 43 minutes.
