Background

Knight Hennessy Scholars Program is designed to grant fellowships for students enrolling in any of the graduate programs available at seven schools of Stanford University. This fellowship covers tuition of up to three years, a travel stipend for a single annual trip to and from Stanford, a stipend for academic expenses, and a living allowance. With this program, a US-based university aims to cultivate and support a community of scholars that belong to various academic disciplines and diverse cultures. Additionally, this program also envisages preparing Stanford graduates to become visionary, ethical, collaborative, and courageous leaders of tomorrow.

Eligibility of Knight Hennessy Scholars Program

There are two basic requirements to avail of the Knight Hennessy Scholars Program fellowship:

Acceptance to Stanford

The initial requirement to apply for this fellowship is acceptance to a graduate program in seven schools at Stanford. The applicant must meet any one of the following eligibility requirements:

  • The applicant must apply for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) and a full-time graduate degree program at Stanford simultaneously. The candidate must start both programs in the same year, or
  • The applicant must have secured admission to a full-time graduate course at Stanford and have postponed admission to the program to start KHS in the same year, or
  • The candidate must be a graduate student at Stanford who is willing to apply for a second full-time graduate program at this US-based university, so that the applicant starts KHS and a new program concurrently, or
  • The applicant must be a current PhD student at Stanford in the first year of enrollment and is willing to apply to KHS so that the candidate can start the scholar’s program and second year of PhD in the same year.

Undergraduate Degree 

The applicant must have completed a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college/university in the USA in January 2017 or later.

Funding of Knight Hennessy Scholars Program

Fellows of the Knight Hennessy Scholars Program are granted funding for up to three years for any Stanford graduate course/s. The funding is applicable to programs to which scholars enroll at the time of KHS selection. The selected scholars receive the following types of funding up to three years of the degree program:

  • A fellowship to cover tuition fees and associated fees
  • A stipend that covers academic expenses such as books, instructional materials, and academic supplies and living expenses like room and board, personal expenses, and local transportation. 
  • A travel allowance that covers an annual round ticket to and from Stanford. 

Some of the additional funding are:

  • Relocation stipend to newly enrolled Stanford scholars. This stipend is inclusive of costs related to relocation to Stanford or/and technology costs.
  • KHS awardees who are in the second or third year of their graduate studies can apply for supplemental funding to fund their academic enrichment activities like conference travel.
