Therefore, investing in adult literacy programs can be very beneficial, transformative and a turning point for every individual and their communities. Adult literacy plays a significant role in boosting the economy of the country. People who are educated become more productive and adaptable than their counterparts. This helps in reducing the unemployment of adults, improving their financial situation thereby giving them a fulfilling career and life.
In addition to this, illiterate adults sooner or later can become a huge threat to society. The illiterate masses can be easily manipulated and can be convinced to do illicit activities. The instances of getting into robbery or other petty crimes is predominantly witnessed among those who have never learnt to read and write. Moreover, their illiteracy is also a barrier to civic engagement. These unaware groups will not be able to decipher political issues and the system of voting and thus will not have a vital role in the democratic process.
