Q. Some people believe that childhood is the best stage of happiness. While others believe that a person can enjoy more happiness in other stages of life. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Ans: The idea of happiness varies amongst individuals and the exact stage over which a person achieves a state of joy is a subject of debate. Some people say that childhood is the happiest because it offers freedom from responsibilities and an abundance of playing outdoors while others think that it comes in later stages of life. I think people in childhood are happier as it is a time for vast exploration and discovery for a person.

Childhood is often associated with happiness due to its carefree nature. Since children are dependent on their parents and are free from the burden of financial responsibilities, career pressure, and societal expectations that adults face daily, they have ample time to play, explore, and indulge in activities that intrigue them. Consequently, they gain joy from the simple pleasures of life, fostering a sense of innocence and curiosity. Each day presents them with new opportunities to learn and grow, whether it involves climbing a tree, building a sandcastle, or reading a book. Additionally, children easily form friendships, and these relationships are often uncomplicated by the issues that strain adult relationships. Thus, the joy of sharing toys, playing games together, or simply spending time with friends brings them immense joy.

However, others argue that happiness is more meaningful in adulthood or old age. As adults, individuals have the freedom to make decisions for themselves and shape their own lives. As a result, they can pursue their passions, build relationships, and achieve all of the professional and personal goals they have set for themselves. The satisfaction that comes from these accomplishments can bring immense happiness. Furthermore, adults can understand and appreciate the complexities of life, which can enrich their experience of happiness. In old age, people have more leisure time and fewer responsibilities, similar to childhood. Therefore, they get to reflect on their life’s journey, cherish achievements, and enjoy the company of their loved ones. Ultimately, the contentment that one has during this stage is a source of great happiness.

In conclusion, while happiness can be found at all stages of life, the freedom, simplicity and joy of discovery that characterise childhood makes it truly special. Therefore, it is reasonable to argue that childhood is the happiest stage of life.
