Croatia Digital Nomad Visa is a Temporary Residence permit issued by the country. It is not a visa. The permit is valid for up to a year. This permit is not available for extension. Therefore, you will have to return to your country for 6 months and then apply for the permit again. It is important to note that a temporary residence permit only grants you the permission to stay. What are the Croatia Digital Nomad Visa Requirements?

Croatia does not grant a Digital Nomad Visa. Instead, there is a temporary residence permit available for Digital Nomads. Therefore, when we talk about the Croatia Digital Nomad visa we are actually referring to ‘Temporary Residence Permit’. To apply for this temporary residence permit, you must meet the following requirements.

• You must be eligible to apply for the permit
• You must meet the documentation requirements

The first step is to meet the eligibility requirements. The basic eligibility criteria that you must meet are provided below:

• You must be a non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen 
• You must be employed in a company, or perform work through communication technology in an organisation that is not registered in the  Republic of Croatia. Moreover, the company must also not conduct business or provide services to employees in the Republic of Croatia.
• Otherwise, you must be self-employed, and your organisation must not be registered in the  Republic of Croatia, provide services, or work in Croatia in any way.
• You must submit relevant documentation, and must have sufficient funds to cover your expenses for the stay
• Intend to return to your home country after the visa expiry

Croatia Digital Nomad Visa Requirements: Documentation 

Several documents have to be submitted to get a temporary residence permit. These documents would verify your eligibility and your identity. All documents must be submitted in either Croatian or English

• Application Form: Download the application form (Form 1a) from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Croatia’s official website and fill out the same. 
• Travel document- You must have a passport that is valid for 3 months longer than the duration of your intended stay.
• Health insurance- You must have health insurance that is valid for the duration of your stay. You can choose to get travel or private health insurance that is applicable in Croatia. The health insurance must be at least EUR 30,00 and must be valid in all the Schenegen states.
• Proof of Purpose– You need to submit documents clearing your intention to stay. This can be an employment contract, or an official letter to prove that you are undertaking work through communication technology for your company or a foreign company that is not registered in Croatia. For example, your own company registration certificate, or employment contract.
• Police clearance- You need to get a police clearance certificate from India. 
• Photographs- Get two passport-size photographs.
• Proof of Funds- Provide proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses. You need at least Hrk 28.800,00, or EUR 4000  as the minimum back account balance.
• Reason letter- A letter stating the reason for visa rejection (if you have previously applied for any visa and got rejected),
• Proof of Accommodation in Croatia– Submit hotel booking (even if it is not confirmed). A lease contract with the landlord is also acceptable.
• Flight tickets- Submit your flight tickets to and from Croatia (even if it is not confirmed)

One of the main visa requirements is to have sufficient funds for the duration of your stay. This would mean you need to have funds-

• Must have a minimum amount per month of stay. This month reflects in the bank account.
• Have a minimum amount of health or travel insurance
• Must have funds to pay the fees for the temporary residence permit & visa stamping
• Cost of Biometric Residence card 

Minimum Bank Balance

As per the Croatia Digital Nomad visa requirements, you need to have a minimum bank balance. You can prove you have this amount by showing your last 6 months bank statements ( as salary slips or regular income statements). The amount is increased by 10% for every family member who is accompanying you.

Medical Insurance 

The minimum amount of medical or travel insurance that you need is as follows. The health insurance must be valid in all the Schengen states. The reason is, Croatia has become a part of the Schengen area.

Croatia Digital Nomad Visa Application Process

Ensure that you meet the Croatia digital nomad visa requirements before applying. You can follow the steps below to start the visa application process 

• First, you need to apply for a residence permit. To apply, first fill out Form 1a, and schedule your appointment at a visa application centre. 
• Gather the documents required as per the document checklist
• On the date of your appointment visit the visa application centre and submit your application form, required documents, and your biometric information.
• At this stage, you are required to pay the visa fees 
• After you submit the fees, the application will be processed. You can also check the status of your application online by entering your reference number, and last name 
• After a decision has been made you can collect your passport and documents from the visa application centre.
• If your residence permit application is approved, you can download the D visa application centre from the VFS Global website, and apply for the visa. The application process is the same.
• After getting your D visa approval you can travel to Croatia, and collect your biometric residence card. You also need to submit your biometric information to the police station where you are collecting your biometric residence card.

Things to Keep in Mind While Applying for a Digital Nomad Visa

• There is no Croatia Digital Nomad visa. As a digital nomad, you need to apply for a temporary residence permit, and then a D visa. Thereafter, you need to travel to Croatia to get a Biometric residence card.
• As per the Article 57 law, you need to leave Croatia after your visa expiry. You can apply for the visa again. That is, only after you have completed 6 months of stay in your home country. This is needed to ensure that you become ineligible for a permanent residence (which requires continuous stay). This means that with this permit you are not allowed to become a permanent resident.
• You are not permitted to work for any Croatian company 
• You need to meet all the Croatia digital nomad visa requirements
• Furthermore, after reaching Croatia you need to collect your biometric residence card from a police administration or station.
