On 17 May 1972, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development proposed an idea of information dissemination and public opinion mobilization with respect to the sustainable development of the nation. This is referred to as the resolution 3038 (XXVII). The resolution was sent to the UN General Assembly for its official approval.
It was approved by the UN in 1972 and marked 24 October as the World Development Information Day. This day coincides with the United Nations Day and the adoption of the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade in 1970.
