The first Children’s Day was celebrated on 5 November 1948 as Flower’s Day to sell flowers and collect funds for the welfare of underprivileged children. After that on 30 July 1949, Children’s Day was celebrated with an involvement of the entertainment industry at a wider scale with radio broadcasts, cinemas, etc.

In 1951, V. M. Kulkarni suggested celebrating the birthday of the first Prime Minister of India as Children’s Day, since there was no particular system to celebrate this day. 

In 1957, Children’s Day was officially declared and the Government of India issued a stamp to mark 14 November as a special occasion to celebrate Children’s Day and dedicate this day to spread awareness about the need for the welfare of underprivileged children. So, we celebrate Children’s Day on the birthday of the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 14 November.
