1. The Election Commission of India has taken a proactive step by appointing special observers in six crucial states – West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. 3. AAP MLAs on April 2 met Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, and asserted that the Delhi Chief Minister should continue to run the government from jail and not step down. Mr. Kejriwal is in judicial custody till April 15 after his arrest last month by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering case linked to his government’s now-scrapped excise policy.

4. The Indian Air Force has commenced its biggest exercise, ‘Gagan Shakti,’ at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer district. This large-scale exercise, which began on April 1st and will continue until April 10th, showcases the striking capabilities of all the major fighter aircraft and modern helicopters in the Air Force’s arsenal.

5. Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi has announced a significant milestone, stating that for the first time ever, India’s coal and lignite production has surpassed one billion tonnes. He attributed this achievement to the favorable support from the Government, resulting in capacity expansion, which has led to a remarkable growth of more than 70 percent in coal and lignite production over the last decade.

1. The World Bank has revised downward the GDP growth forecast for Bangladesh by 0.1 percentage point to 5.7 percent for the next fiscal year (FY2025). The authorities face a multitude of challenges, including a worsening conflict and humanitarian crisis in the eastern regions, as well as the management of Congo’s considerable mineral wealth.

1. Tokyo Olympics medallist Mirabai Chanu has become the only Indian weightlifter to qualify for the Paris Olympics this year. Following a suggestion from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on April 1st to either advance or push back the matches by 24 hours, the BCCI has adjusted the schedule. Kolkata Knight Riders’ match will now take place on April 16th, while their clash against Gujarat Titans has been rescheduled for April 17th.
