Speech On Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti in English for Students

‘Good morning, respected teachers and dear friends. On the occasion of Rabindranath Jayanti, I’d like to give a speech about his life, his role in India’s freedom struggle and his career achievements. Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti is the birth anniversary of one of the greatest personalities of India. It is observed annually on May 7th in the Gregorian calendar and on the ninth day of Boishakh in the Bengali calendar; however, this year it is on May 8th.’

‘Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali social reformer and best known for his notable contributions to literature, art, politics, and music. Born in Calcutta, he completed his schooling in England and then came back to his native country, India. His interest in literature resulted in the birth of a man who is still noted for his literary achievements. He has written many books, poetry, novels, and songs during his life, for which he has received awards and prizes.

His most well-known work was his poetry book Geetanjali, for which he got a Noble Prize in Literature in 1913. He was also well-known as a composer and music composer. He has written over 2000 songs, one of which is the current national anthem of India. Tagore was an educator and activist who founded ‘Shantiniketan’. 

Shantiniketan’s goal was to bring together the eastern and western education systems. He was also quite interested in painting, and he beautifully portrayed Bengali culture in his work. He is also known as the ‘Bard of Bengal’ since he revolutionised Bengali art by rejecting rigid traditional conventions and challenging linguistic boundaries. He also contributed significantly to India’s freedom struggle by infusing patriotism in his work. He took part in a protest against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919 as well.

Tagore died on August 7, 1941, in Calcutta as a result of complications from surgery performed a week earlier. Tagore died, but his artwork, music, stories, and accomplishments continue to live on in the hearts of countless people.
