Dussehra Activities for Kindergarten

Let us check out some fun Dussehra Activities for Kindergarten!!

Ravan Effigy Making

As Dussehra is the mythological story of Ravan’s death by Ram, Ravan’s effigy burning has become a tradition in India. This event depicts the combat between the King of Ayodhya and the King of Lanka. In general, this tradition is observed at a community level. People gather together to burn larger-than-life effigies of Ravan. However, it is not always necessary to burn down effigies using loads of crackers. We can help KG students create small replicas of Ravan using newspapers or coloured papers. These kids can display effigies on the bulletin board of classes or on their desks. Teachers can also help students learn about the story of Vijaydashmi and the importance of good over evil while helping students make these effigies.

Kalash Decorating

India’s rural culture is reflected in matkas. It has a unique aesthetic flair that cannot be replaced. You as teachers can encourage kids to place a decorative Matka beside the door to add some colour to your classes. This activity’s setup doesn’t take a lot of time either, owing to which it is one of the most creative Dussehra activities for Kindergarten. Purchase some coloured paper and sparkling stones. Put them together in a pattern or with symmetry on the matkas. Children enjoy making items out of paper, stones, and glue. We guarantee that as you work with them on this project, you will think back on your childhood days.

Ramayan Puppet Show

You can also create an interactive experience for young kids with a Ramayan puppet show. It will bring the epic tale of Ramayan to life for our Kindergarten audience. You can start by setting up the puppet theatre. Or, you can also create a backdrop that represents the scenes from Ramayan. Begin by introducing the main characters of the story – Ram, Sita, Hanuman, etc. Show the puppets to the children and let them get familiar with each character. Now, narrate a part of the story by using puppets and a simple script. As you narrate, manipulate the puppets to act out the scenes. Use expressive gestures and voices to make the characters come to life. Try to make it interactive by encouraging kids to ask questions.

Ramleela Performance

Ramleela is a drama that teachers can stage in kindergarten to illustrate the Ramayana. If you are a teacher, you can explain the plot and the duties of each character, and the kids will choose who they want to play before performing the skit on Dussehra. The children can portray their characters accurately by dressing up, and they can speak a few lines of conversation. This is one of the most interesting Dussehra activities for Kindergarten.

Ramayan-Themed Rangoli Making

Also, creating a Ramayan-themed rangoli can also be a wonderful way to celebrate Dusshera with young children. You require coloured rangoli powders or coloured sand, a design outline (optional), brushes or cotton buds (for finer detail), and a plate or bowl for holding colours. Decide on the Ramayan scene or character you would like children to depict. Common choices include Rama, Sita, Hanuman, or scenes of Vijaydashmi. Clean the classroom floor and draw an outline for kids to fill colours inside them. After kids finish their part, light diyas or candles around rangolis to make them more aesthetically pleasing.
