Admission Process
To get admission in the TIFR courses, you need to entrance exam conducted by the university, i.e. TIFS GS paper or the national entrance examinatons like:
If you want to get admission in the Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Mathematics, then you need to clear the written tests. However, there is a separate entrance examination for students who want to go into the field of science education.
The Joint Graduate Admission Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences is the TIFR Mumbai Biology entrance test which is abbreviated as JGEEBILS.
Once you clear all these exams, you are called for an interview. Further, if you are selected by the respective board, you will be then asked for the letter of recommendation.

Steps Wise Process to Apply For TIFR Courses
You need to follow the given steps to apply for the PG and PhD courses at the Tata institute.
- To apply for PG and PhD courses, go to the official website of TIFR and click on the “Apply Online” tab.
- On the basic registration form, you need to enter a personal email ID.
- An SMS and email with the login information will be sent to the registered phone number and email address.
- Go to the top right corner of the official page and click the “Go to Application” Link. Then follow the instructions to finish the application form.
- The non-refundable registration fee for men is INR 1200, and for women is INR 600.
- Students can pay this fee through Internet Banking, Credit Card or Debit card, UPI, or other.
- Once you’ve made a payment online, please use your application sequence number as your User ID to log in to your account on the website and check the progress of your payment.
- Once the payment goes through, an automatic confirmation email will be sent to the email address.
- Now after submitting your payment print out the TIFR Mumbai application form so you can use it again in the future.
Documents Required
Candidates who submit their application using the offline option are required to fill out the application form and send it to the address shown on the official portal, along with the Driver’s License and recent two pass-port-size photographs.

- Scanned copy of the recent photographs.
- Scanned copy of the signature.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Students at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research can get scholarships before and after they start the PhD program. You get an average monthly fellowship of INR 21,000. To get this scholarship, you must meet the requirements and the eligibility criteria of the same.
