The National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the eligibility for NEET 2024 including age limit, marks of the 12th board exam, and more. 

Submitting the NEET Application form 2024 is the maiden step to take part in the exam. To complete the registration process, it is important that candidates are eligible. In this blog, we will give you the necessary information about NEET 2024 eligibility criteria, so you can submit the application successfully.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024 📄 

NEET 2024 eligibility criteria are the minimum requirements that every aspirant need to fulfil. It is to filter only eligible candidates for submitting the application form. NTA releases all the rules related to eligibility along with official notification. Further, it is expected that NTA will release the information bulletin in the last week of November 2024.  Below, we have mentioned the pointers about NEET eligibility criteria 2024:

  • Age Limit- Candidate should not be younger than 17 years of age as 31 December 2023.
  • Upper Age limit for NEET 2024: There is no upper age limit.
  • Nationality- The candidate should be an Indian citizen, or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI). Also, foreign nationals are eligible to appear in the exam.

NEET Eligibility 12th Marks 📚

Candidates need to score at least 50% score in 12th board exam to be eligible to apply. According to official notification, NEET eligibility criteria 2024 12th marks requirements are different for General and other category students. Below, we have mentioned the required marks in class 12th in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English.

  • For General/EWS Category students- 50% Marks in 12th Board
  • For SC/ ST/ OBC and PwD candidates- 40% Marks in the 12th board

NEET Number of Attempts

There is no restriction on the number of attempts for students. Any student who fulfills the eligibility can appear for the examination. There is no fixed number of limits for students. In the year 2018, authorities made the changes in rule and lift the restrictions.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024: Qualifying Exam Codes

There are 7 different qualifying exam codes. You need to understand the meaning of these codes so you do not make any mistake ahead.

Code 01: Candidates who will be appearing for their board exam of Class 12 this year, and waiting for their results, then they have to choose CODE 01, If they get fail in the exam then their application will get rejected.

Code 02: Aspirants who are studying for the higher/senior secondary examination or Indian School Certificate Examination equivalent to the Class 12 exam and comes after a period of 12 years of study have to choose this code. According to the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), the last two years of this study must comprise science subjects namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics or any other elective subjects with English as a core subject. CODE 02 is for the NEET dropper aspirants. If a candidate has passed the board exam from any education board in year 2020 but wishes to appear for NEET 2024, he/she can apply for the exam with Code 2.

Code 03: For candidates who have done their 12th board exam in PCB from an Indian University/Board or other recognized examination and also English as a compulsory subject.

Code 04: Those who have cleared a Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination after passing the Higher Secondary Examination, Pre-University, or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as compulsory subjects must select this code during application. This examination includes practical tests in these subjects and English as a mandatory subject.

Code 05: Candidates pursuing UG course from a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as mandatory subjects and who have cleared the first year with practical tests in each of these subjects must choose this code.

Code 06: Individuals who have completed a BSc Examination from an Indian recognized University with a minimum of two subjects among Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology must opt for this code during the application process. It is mandatory that they pass the 12th board exam in English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Code 07: Applicants who have cleared an examination similar in scope and standard to the 12th board exam of an Indian education board (last two years comprising Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology with practical tests) should select this code. Foreign candidates who have completed the 12th board exam from a foreign country should also use this code.
