NLSIU Bangalore launched the interdisciplinary 3-year LLB (Hons.) programme in the year 2022. The 3-year LLB (Hons.) is a postgraduate professional degree programme that is open to graduates from all disciplines. The 3-year LLB (Hons.) programme meets all the mandatory requirements of the Bar Council of India. It is a 3-year LLB (Hons.), a full-time residential programme. The admission will be based on the all-India National Law School Admission Test, also known as NLSAT.

NLSAT 2023 Seat Allotment Criteria

There are a total of 120 seats available for the LLB (Hons.) programme at the National Law School of India University Bangalore (NLSIU). Out of 120 seats, 27% are reserved for the OBCs Non-Creamy Layer, 15% are reserved for the SC category, 7.5% for the ST category, 10% are reserved for the EWS category, and 5% of the total seats are for horizontally reserved for persons with disabilities. 

Additionally, 30% and 25% of seats are reserved for the women and students of Karnataka under the Horizontal Reservation category respectively. For more information regarding the seat matrix reservation, refer to the table:

NLSAT Seat Allotment for SC/ST Category 

15% of the total seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes and 7.5% are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes respectively. To avail of the benefit of the reservation, candidates must have a valid certificate issued by the competent authority. As proof of a candidate’s claim to the seat, certificates provided by the following authority stand valid.

  • District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/Executive Magistrate/Extra Assistant Commissioner.
  • Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate.
  • Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar.
  • Administrator, Secretary to the Administrator, or the Development Officer (Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands).

NLSAT Seat Allotment For OBC Non-Creamy Layer

27% of the total seats are reserved for the Other Backwards Classes (OBCs)– Non-Creamy Layer. Only those candidates can apply who have the certificate issued by the competent authority under the General list of OBCs or the Delhi State List of OBCs (Notified by the Govt. of NCT of Delhi). As proof of a candidate’s claim to the seat, certificates provided by the following authority stand valid.

  • District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/Executive Magistrate/Extra Assistant Commissioner.
  • Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate.
  • Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides.

However, the certificate issued by the competent authority should be on or after April 1st, 2022.

NLSAT Seat Allotment EWS Category

10% of the seats are reserved for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The benefit of the reservation can be availed only after the production of valid Income and Asset certificates from the competent authority at the time of provisional admission. As proof of a candidate’s claim to the seat, certificates provided by the following authority stand valid.

  • District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/Executive Magistrate/Extra Assistant Commissioner.
  • Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate.
  • Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides.

However, the certificate issued by the competent authority should be on or after April 1st, 2022. 

Persons with Disabilities

A horizontal Reservation of 5% is reserved for the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category as per the provisions of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016”. Candidates possessing a valid certificate issued by the competent authority will be eligible to apply under this category.    

Karnataka Student Category

Candidates who have studied for more than ten years in a Government recognised educational institution in the state of Karnataka will be considered as students under the category of Reservation for Karnataka Students. They will get considered at the time of offering reservations to the candidates.

Candidates who are yet to complete ten years of education in Karnataka will be considered eligible to apply under the Reservation Category for Karnataka Students if they fall under any of the below categories:

  • Candidates of defence personnel/ex-servicemen, who at the time of joining service, have declared their hometown to be anywhere in the State of Karnataka, and those who have served or are serving outside Karnataka, corresponding to the candidate’s years of study outside Karnataka.
  • Children of the Karnataka State Government employees who have served or are serving outside Karnataka correspond to the candidate’s years of study outside Karnataka.
  • Children of serving or retired employees belonging to the Karnataka cadre of the All India Services (IAS/IFS/IPS), who have served or are serving outside Kamataka corresponding to the candidate’s years of study outside Karnataka.
  • Children of working or retired employees in the Central Armed Police Force service, who upon joining service declared their hometown to be in the State of Karnataka, and those who have served or are serving outside Karnataka, corresponding to the candidate’s years of study outside Karnataka.
  • If the desired candidate has studied in Karnataka for three years, they have to prove that their parent/s were serving outside Karnataka for a minimum period of seven years corresponding to their period of education of study.
  • In case, the candidate has not studied in the state of Karnataka continuously for at least one year, they have to prove that their parent/s were serving outside Karnataka for a period of a minimum of ten years corresponding to their period of education outside Karnataka. 

The eligible candidates have to keep their Certificates related to education issued by their respective educational institutions and other relevant documents ready to be submitted at the time of provisional admission.
