JEE Main Reservation Criteria

Jee Main is an entrance-level test for engineering aspirants which allows the applicants to study among the top colleges in India. Cutoffs and Reservation Criteria play a significant role in deciding the kind of college one would get. The reservation quota is a system that allows candidates from certain categories to secure admission to top engineering colleges based on the percentage of seats reserved for their category  

JEE Main 2023: Category-wise Reservation

There are two major types of quotes, mainly i.e., home state quotes and another state quota. Seat allocation is majorly based upon the quota an individual has applied to whereas reservation categories such as OBC, SC, and ST have different seats reserved in every college. 

  • Home State Quota: Home State quota refers to the place where he has cleared his senior secondary examinations. And to apply for it, one must apply via All India rank. Around 50% of the seats are kept for the Home State Quota. 
  • Other State Quota: The other state quota varies from state to state, with each state having its criteria and percentage of seats reserved under this category. In some states, the other state quota is as high as 15-20%, while in others, it may be as low as 2-3%. 

Category-wise Reservation 

Government/education committees decide the number of seats that would be reserved for various categories. The percentage of seat reservations can slightly vary from college to university.  Candidates may follow the list downward for reference.

Reservation for Women

There is a reservation for women too. There are offered relaxation by 5% – 10% in the cutoff. If the university cutoff is 95%, then the women candidates can apply at 90% as well.  

But the percentage of relaxation varies from college to college, hence, one must check thoroughly before applying for the college/university.

JEE Main Reservation Clause

One can only claim a reservation if they can show valid and original documents when asked.  

University has the legit right to ask for the updated documents if required. 

Candidates who will not be able to submit the document during the verification process will not able eligible for a reserved seat. 

Types of Ranks in JEE Main

Different kinds of ranks are displayed on the scorecard of a candidate. Let’s understand the four different types of rank. 

  • All India Rank  
  • All India SC Rank 
  • State Rank  
  • State SC Rank 

It depends on the smartness of the candidates via what rank he chooses to apply to the college.

What are the reservation criteria for the Pwd category?

The reservation criteria for the PwD category are determined based on the Disability Act, of 2016. Is 75% of the eligibility criteria removed from Jee Mains?

The 75% eligibility criteria in JEE Mains have been removed for the academic year 2022-23 due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s important to note that the removal of the 75% eligibility criteria does not affect the eligibility criteria for admission to individual engineering colleges, which may have their cutoffs based on class 12 board exam marks or JEE Mains scores.
