The TNEA 2023 application form was released online by the officials of Anna University on 5th May 2023. TNEA offers admission to eligible candidates in different Engineering programs such as B.E/ B. Tech. Anna University annually organises this state-level entrance exam. The last date to apply for TNEA 2023 is 4th June 2023 and 9th June is the last date to upload documents online. Earlier, the process was conducted through an examination but the examination has now been scrapped and admission is given on the basis of marks secured in Class 12

The test is conducted by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Technical Education with more than 500 colleges participating in this process. Read on to know the finer details of this process.

TNEA 2023 Important Dates

The important dates for the TNEA 2023 have been released by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Technical Education. the TNEA application started on 5th May 2023 and the last date to apply for this state-level entrance exam is 4th June 2023. The table below highlights all the TNEA 2023 important dates.

TNEA 2023 Pattern

While TNEA is not an admission test, top-rated colleges and universities in the state of Tamil Nadu accept the scores in Class 12th. The marks obtained in the relevant subjects namely Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry will be reduced to 200 and the distribution will be as follows:

After the calculation of the marks, the merit list will be prepared based on the scores obtained by the candidate.

TNEA 2023 Syllabus

Since TNEA does not conduct an examination, admission is solely conducted based on the scores obtained by a candidate in the 12th standard. It is advised that a candidate prepares well and performs exceptionally well in the 12th examination. The syllabus for class 12th is as follows:

TNEA 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Before beginning the application process, the candidates are advised to go through the essential eligibility criteria. To be eligible for admission, there are specific criteria that a candidate must meet. Here are the conditions that a candidate is required to meet: 

  • Candidates must be a native of Tamil Nadu and must have completed their 12th  from Tamil Nadu.
  • Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu and have passed classes 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th from schools located in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They do not have to produce Nativity Certificate for verification
  • The candidate who is from Tamil Nadu and has completed their 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th from schools or equivalent from a different state is eligible to apply for TNEA 2023. However, these candidates are required to submit a native certificate as proof to the competent authority.
  • Candidates who do not belong to the state of Tamil Nadu and have completed their 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th from schools or equivalent are eligible to apply and do not have to provide the native certificate.
  • Candidates who are children of central government employees or candidates whose parents are employed in the All India Service Tamil Nadu Cadre Officers are also eligible to apply for the TNEA 2023 and are required to submit a parent’s native certificate as proof to the competent authority that they have been serving the state of Tamil Nadu for the last five years constantly.

TNEA 2023 Application Process

Aspiring candidates can fill up the application form through the official website once the announcements are made. TNEA 2023 application process is expected to begin from the third week of June 2023. However, the official notification is not released yet. To make the students acquainted with the application process, we have the entire process summed up in detail.

Step 1: The candidates have to visit the official website of TNEA and register themselves under the tab “New Registration”.

Step 2: Enter the details correctly- name, date of birth, mobile number and email ID.

Step 3: Next up, fill up the personal details such as Aadhar card, bank account details (for registration fee payment), parent annual income details, academic qualifications such as 10th and 12th mark sheets, reservation category (if applicable), scholarship details and address for communication and permanent address details carefully.

Step 4: Once the details are filled up, click on submit and you will receive an OTP on your registered number/email ID.

Step 5: After submitting the OTP, click on the “register”  tab.

Step 6: With the received login credentials, log in to your portal, and submit the required application fee. After the successful payment of the application fee, you will receive a digital copy of a payment receipt, download it and keep it for later reference.

Step 7: Upon successful registration, the candidates will receive a number on their registered email id and mobile number. Candidates are advised to keep the TNEA number securely till the end of the admission process.

The application fee for the categories varies and the payment can only be made through Debit Card, Credit Card, and Net Banking. Keep in mind, without the submission of the application fee, the application process will be considered incomplete and will not be registered. The application fee is as follows:

TNEA 2023 Important Documents

These are the lists of documents that the candidate has to submit during the course of the process. The candidates are advised to go through the list thoroughly and gather the below-noted documents in advance:

  • Class XI and XII Marksheet
  • Original Transfer/Migration/College Leaving Certificate received from the institute last attended (if already received)
  • Aadhar Card
  • Annual family income certificate
  • Caste certificate
  • Nativity certificate (if applicable)
  • Original character certificate
  • Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee certificate (if applicable)
  • Various sports certificates (if applicable)

TNEA 2023 Selection Process

The TNEA will release the merit list on the official website according to the rank of the student. Students can check their rank after login into their portal through credentials received at the time of registration. 

Once the rank list is released, the counselling session will begin and will be conducted according to the rank of the candidate in the merit list. The entire counselling session will be conducted online in 4 rounds. The 4 rounds consist of  4 stages noted below:

1. Choice Filling 

2. Allotment 

3. Allotment confirmation 

4. Reporting to respective college/TFC and successful payment of fees

Is TNEA only applicable to candidates belonging to the state of Tamil Nadu?

No. Students belonging to other states are also eligible provided they fulfill the requirements laid down in this blog above.
