The full form of GAIL is Gas Authority Of India Ltd. It is the largest natural gas refining and handling business in India. GAIL provides natural gas, liquid hydrocarbon, liquefied petroleum gas transmission, petrochemical, city gas distribution, renewable energy including Solar & Wind, exploration and production, Petrochemicals, GAILTEL and electricity generation. History Behind GAIL
- GAIL India was launched by the Indian government as a PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) under the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry in 1984
- GAIL started its city gas distribution in New Delhi in 1997 by setting up nine compressed natural gas (CNG) stations
- GAIL was approved in 2001 to build the longest in the world and the first interstate LPG transmission pipeline running from Jamnagar in Gujarat to Loni in UP, India
- A 12 per cent share in GSEGs in Gujarat was managed to pull out in the year 2002
- GAIL and HPCL launched a joint venture called Bhagyanagar Gas Limited in 2003
- GAIL opened a Representative Office in Egypt in 2010
- In 2010, GAIL was ranked one in the Platts Global Ranking for the classification of gas utilities in Asia
