There are currently 30 Chief Ministers in India in 2024. A Chief Minister is the real executive authority and the Head of the Government of that State or Union Territory. To put it into perspective, the Chief Minister at the state level is equivalent to that of the Prime Minister at the Centre. Moreover, Articles 163, 164, 166 and 167 of the Indian Constitution relate to the Chief Ministers of India. Notably, the Chief Minister of a State or Union Territory has a flexible term of office.
