The full form of ASL is Assessment for Speaking and Listening. This exercise is being introduced to help students further improve and assess their abilities. Additionally, schools connected to the CBSE have started teaching ASL. ASL is an extracurricular activity that teachers undertake with their students to assess how well they are following the curriculum. Starting from the ninth standard, this topic is a compulsory part of the syllabus.

It is essential to assess students’ abilities so that teachers may prepare them for various activities, show them how to become more active, educate them on communication skills, and help them stand out in a crowd.

Parts of ASL 

In 2012, ASL was adopted as a teaching method and made mandatory for students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. ASL was developed as a subject for the students as it helps them develop their speaking, listening, and communication abilities.

It has two distinct language components that serve as the building blocks for speaking, listening, and communication; these two sections are assessed using ASL.

Speaking Test

In the speaking exam, the student may be given any topic by the teacher or examiner. The teacher assigned the topic, and two students were chosen at random to present their prepared arguments. Both students must ask questions from each other about their respective themes after the teacher has asked them general inquiries. Following that, the teacher will assess how well they are performing and how focused their minds are and will grade them accordingly.

Listening Test

Teachers make the students sit in audio-enabled classrooms where two audio clips are played, one of which is based on dialogue and the other on speech. The examiner plays the audio twice; after listening, the teacher asks several questions about it, to which the students must respond. There is no negative marking for any incorrect answers, therefore students must pay close attention during the assessment so they can answer the questions. In the listening test, the teacher evaluates the student’s level of focus and mental acuity. Based on the assessment, they award grades.
