History, Affiliations and Rankings
The Western University was established on March 7, 1878, by Bishop Isaac Hellmuth in London, Canada. Since the first class graduated in 1883, the university has grown into a vibrant centre of learning. It is an educational institution dedicated to career preparation, a sense of community, and mental and physical wellbeing. All these are just as important as academics. The Western University consists of 12 faculties and is affiliated with three University colleges, namely, Huron University College, King's University College and Brescia University College. Today, the University offers 40000+ students with world-class education with 400+ specializations, majors and minors. Western University ranks in the top 1% of education institutions worldwide. In the World University Ranking list released by Times Higher Education 2022, Western University ranks in the bracket #201-250 and ranks #170 as per the QS World University Rankings 2022. Furthermore, the university also ranks #294 in U.S. News Best Global Universities 2022.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Western University is one of the most beautiful universities, located in the fastest growing city in Canada. It provides undergraduate, graduate and research learning opportunities in more than 400 specializations, majors, and minors. Arts and Humanities are right at home at Western! While on campus, one can see a live performance in the Don Wright Faculty of Music, a feature film in the McKellar Room at UCC or experience a one-of-a-kind interactive art exhibit at the McIntosh Gallery or the ArtLab Gallery. The Western campus has a 15-minute walk from one end to the other. 157 Degree Programs and/or Collaborative Specializations are available for graduate programs. All the programs come with the option of work experience.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Western University is ranked among the top 1% of higher education institutions worldwide. It is a founding member of the U15 – Canada’s most distinguished research universities. It has one of the highest retention rates of first to second-year students, that is, 93.6% in Canada. 95.2% is the employment rate of the University after graduation. It has 26 faculty recipients of 3M National Teaching Fellowships—second highest in Canada. It has more than 328,000 alumni in 160 countries worldwide. Western University alumni stay closely connected to the university through the Alumni Association and other alumni groups in various regions or related to a particular faculty or interest area. The Alumni of the University have their footprint across fields, from Medicine and Entrepreneurship to Law and many more sectors. To mention the tale of Randy Lai, alumni of BA'93 (Economics), who is the first female Managing Director nurtured in the Hong Kong market. She has dedicated countless hours to the training and career development of staff, as well as fostering a positive workplace culture. Other notable alumni of the University include Alice Munro (Canadian Writer and Winner of Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013), Alan Thicke (Canadian Actor, Songwriter and TV Show Host), Vandana Shiva (Indian Scholar, Activist and Eco-feminist), and Paul Beeston (Former Baseball executive)
