The University of South Alabama (USA) was founded in the year 1963 to improve access to higher education in southwest Alabama and held classes for the first time in June, 1964 with 276 students. What began as an institute with no building of its own, the University of South Alabama is today a comprehensive research university in the United States that is a catalyst for transformational change, discovery and innovation, offering world-class education to over 14,000 students. Known for its engaging learning experiences and high-level research, the University of South Alabama is one of the most sought-after study destinations in America. It is academically affiliated with the Sea-grant and the Space-grant colleges in the United States and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. According to QS World University Rankings 2022, the University of South Alabama ranks in the bracket #1001-1200, while the US News and World Report places it at #1492 in the Best Global Universities rankings for 2022. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The University of South Alabama campus is situated at the heart of America's Gulf Coast and is spread across a stunning 1200-acres, which features cultivated flower gardens, tree-lined pathways, groves of pine trees and state-of-the-art facilities, including a disc golf course. This campus also features some of the signature facilities and historic structures, including the Archaeology Building, a Performing Arts Center and the Geri Moulton Children's Park encompassed in 50 magnificent sculptures. Apart from the main campus, USA has other locations across the Gulf Shore, a Baldwin County campus along with Health Centers. The University has 10 Colleges that offer a wealth of academic programs, including 100+ Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctoral programs. The constituent colleges are, Allied Health Professions, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Professional Studies, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Computing along with an Honors College and a Graduate School. 40+ Graduate and Professional degree options are available, along with continuing education certificate programs in Photography, Paralegal Studies, Non-profit Management and Medical Billing and Coding

Accomplishments and Alumni 

The University of South Alabama is a designated "high-research" institution by the Carnegie Foundation, with the University receiving nearly $37 million of federal funding for research annually. The Center for Archaeological Studies at the University recently discovered artifacts to create a bridge linking Alabama's two coastal counties. The Health division at the University of South Alabama is the most comprehensive healthcare organization on the Alabama Gulf Coast, that provides advanced and innovative healthcare facilities to 2,50,000+ patients annually through its various hospitals and clinics, Further, the USA College of Medicine is known to supply more than one-thirds of the total physicians in the Mobile area. The University of South Alabama has a list of distinguished alumni members, some of whom include - Rosalynn Bliss, the first woman to be elected Mayor of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Terry Catledge, former NBA Player, Dan Povenmire, American Animator and Steve Hawkins, Basketball Coach. 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

The University of South Alabama has a student population of 14,000+ students out of which international students represent 70+ countries on the campus and includes a talented group of athletes, philanthropists, and young leaders. Students from Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Vietnam, Nigeria, and several other nationalities along with students from 27 States in the USA attend the University of South Alabama. The Class of 2023 at South Alabama, for instance, includes a girl who was hired to narrate a video game while in high school. This not only makes the campus culture diverse and dynamic, but also brings global perspectives, talent and new learning into the classroom. Further, the University of South Alabama has more than 200 student organizations, fraternities and sororities for the students to get involved in and initiate dialogues with peers from different backgrounds.
