This public research institution was founded in 1856 by Charles Benedict Calvert and was previously known as Maryland Agriculture College and Maryland State College. Association of American Universities, American Council of Education, APLU, BTAA, CUWMA, ORAU, SURA, U21, and URA are all connected with the university. According to the US News 2020 Edition, the University of Maryland-College Park is ranked 64th among National Universities, 37th among Best Colleges for Veterans, and 144th among Best Value Schools. According to the QS Global World Ranking 2022, the University is rated 158th.
Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses
The institution provides around 200 bachelor's courses, 107 master's courses, and roughly 90 doctorate programs on its 1,335-acre campus. The institution has a bookstore, a career centre, a counselling centre, dining services, a health centre, a memorial chapel, off-campus housing, clubs, transportation services, and a golf course, among other things. Linguistics, physics and astronomy, natural sciences, and computer sciences and information systems are among the university's most well-known courses.
Accomplishments and Alumni
It has over 40,000 students enrolled and is well-known across the world. The university enjoys a positive reputation among its graduates. A variety of prizes are given out among students, professors, and alumni. The president's award, the outstanding young alumnus award, the spirit of Maryland award, the Tyser Gottwals Award, the Elaine Johnson Coates Award, the Do-Good Award, and The Alumni Excellence Prizes are among the significant awards. The university is known for its long list of notable alumni that includes, Steny Hoyer (House Majority Leader and U.S. Representative), Larry David (co-creator of Seinfeld and creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm), and Sergey Brin (co-founder of Google).
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
The diversity of the university is substantially higher than that of other institutions in the country. In terms of diversity, College Park ranks 287th. Males and females are evenly distributed. Students come from all around the world, with almost 5,000 international students now enrolled at the university. Employers have a unique recruitment calendar with significant dates and links to on-campus interviews, and the institution hosts job fairs and activities for students. KPMG, Microsoft, Boeing, Google, Wells Fargo, and others are among the top firms employing grads.
