History, Affiliations and Ranking
The University of Kent, originally known as the University of Kent at Canterbury, is a public research university in Kent, United Kingdom. The University received its Royal Charter on January 4, 1965, and Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, was formally appointed as the first Chancellor the following year. It was established in the year 1965 and is recognized as a Beloff's Plate Glass University. The university is affiliated with Universities UK, European Union Association (EUA), and Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). The University of Kent ranks at #=382 in QS World University Rankings 2022 and THE World University Ranking 2022 ranks the university between #381-400. Having said that, the university is also placed at #541 in the latest US News Best Global Universities Rankings 2022. The university is ranked #50 in the Complete University Guide's University League Tables 2022 and #50 in the Guardian's Best UK Universities 2022 - rankings.
Infrastructure, Campus and Courses
The University of Kent has four campuses- Canterbury, Medway, Brussels and Paris. The university has a Centre for Music and Audio Technology, Medway Building, Gillingham Building, Drill Hall Library, and Rochester Building. The university has six colleges and its academic structure comprises 3 academic centres and 18 academic schools. In the UK Government's Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the University received a gold rating. The TEF Panel determined that the University of Kent regularly provides exceptional teaching, learning, and results for its students based on the data provided. 97% of the university's research is of international quality, up from 87% in 2008. It is of the best grade available in the United Kingdom. The university has also been awarded two Queen's Anniversary Prizes in eleven years for Higher Education. The institution operated with just 500 students and 150 staff members and Princess Marina, the Duchess of Kent, was appointed as the university's first chancellor. Kent has an alumni network of more than 190,000 former students from around the world.
