Umea University is a public research university located in Sweden's mid-north. It is Sweden's fifth-oldest university, founded in 1965 by the then king, Gustav VI Adolf. In Umea in 1956, higher education was paved by the dentistry school. Ume opened a teaching hospital in 1958. The decision to create Ume University was reached in 1963, It is well-known within the industry for its highly regarded Industrial Design institute and research on the genomes of Norway spruce and the Populus trees. The University is affiliated with EUA and UArctic. It is placed at #365 by World University Ranking-QS 2022 and #351-400 by University Ranking- THE (Times Higher Education) 2022.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
University is located in Umeå, in the mid-northern region of Sweden. The university contains 36 departments, more than 20 research institutes, four colleges, and eight campus schools. With satellite campuses in the cities of Skelleftea and rnsköldsvik, the majority of instruction and research are conducted at the main campus and Ume Arts Campus in Umea. It consists of an American-style main campus by the riverside with a contemporary arts campus. It offers both master’s degrees as well as doctoral degree programs at its several schools and colleges. Some of the popular courses are Architecture & Planning, Business & Management Studies, Design, Engineering, Hospitality & Travel ,Computer Science, Finance, Genetic Engineering, etc.

One of the top universities in the country and the biggest in northern Sweden are Umea University. More than 300 different universities have relationships and cooperation with the college. As a result, Umea University has a very high rate of internationalization. It has been placed at #335 by Global Universities - US News & World Report 2022. It is ranked among the world's top young universities and is well known for its creative learning and comprehensive educational approach. It has the most extensive alumni and faculty network consisting of more than 20,000 members, who are spread across 100 countries. Stefan Lofven, Hanna Ljungberg, the current Prime Minister of Sweden, retired international football star, and acclaimed film director Kay Pollak, etc. are included in the alumni of Umea University.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Numerous students from diverse backgrounds attend the university. Presently, there are about 32,000 students enrolled in total, including postgraduates with 64% female and 36% male. A large portion of these students participates in online or remote learning courses. The institution has 2,113 lecturers and researchers on staff. Students from more than 100 nations get enrolled in the courses offered in the various colleges of the university. There are a total of 2000 international students who attend the university. The top visiting companies are Malmö Stad, AFRY, AstraZeneca, IKEA, Scania Group, EY, Volvo Cars, Stockholms stad, Swedbank and Swedish Armed Forces, etc.
