History, Affiliations and Rankings
Established in 1873, Texas Christian University was formerly known as the AddRan Christian University by the Clark brothers in Texas, USA. The main aim of establishing the institute was to develop classical learning and leadership for the students. The institute was the first co-ed university in West Mississippi. In 1895, the institute’s campus was shifted to Waco, Texas. In 1902, the institute's name was changed to the Texas Christian University. The institute has academic affiliations with Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), and National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). Texas Christian University ranks #83 among National Universities and #1165 in Global Universities by the US News & World Report 2022.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The campus is spread across an area of 283 acres. It has eight constituent colleges and schools and is quite famous for its classical liberal arts curriculum. The campus is divided into three areas, including an academic area, a residential area, and Worth Hills. The academic and residential spaces of the institute are divided by an oak-lined street, University Drive which divides the campus into two halves. Various academic buildings along with the library and chapel are situated to the east. The institution's campus is well-equipped with all facilities needed to enhance an engaging atmosphere for learning. The institute offers 117 bachelor's, 65 post-graduate, and 38 PhD programs at TCU ensuring quality pathways to greater achievements for students in the future. The institution offers undergraduate degrees in business, communication, education, fine arts, liberal arts, nursing and health sciences.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Texas Christian University has the Neeley School of Business which is the nation's most respected business school. The Neeley School ranks #28 best undergraduate business school in the country by Bloomberg BusinessWeek. The university has affiliations with the US military and becomes a host to reserve officer training corps (ROTC) programs for two distinct service branches, the US Air Force ROTC's Detachment 845 "Flying Frogs" and the US Army ROTC's "Horned Frog Battalion". Every year, about 3% of TCU's graduating students go on to serve as commissioned officers in the US armed forces. The notable alumni of the institute are writer Richard J. Allen, actress Tudi Roche, bestselling author Dan Jenkins, and CEO of UBS Group Americas Robert J. McCann.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Texas Christian University has over 10,000 students on-campus, out of which 8,800 are undergraduate students. They have about 580 international students on-campus. The male-to-female ratio is 41:59 at the campus. The Office of Diversity & Inclusion and the DEI Department has made progress toward making TCU a more inclusive campus. The increase in learning and development opportunities, mandatory selection committee training, and the initiatives to implement the DEI essential competency in the core curriculum are a few milestones. The visiting companies at the institute are IBM, Intel, JP Morgan Chase, KPMG, Insight Global, E&T Farms,and Fox Sports Southwest.
