History, Affiliations and Rankings 

In 1985; Fr. Tom Mohan, CSB, Dr John McCarthy, and Mr William Dickie draft a charter for a Catholic college to be known as St. Mary’s that will be affiliated with the University of Calgary. Further, in 1986, St. Mary’s College Act was passed by the provincial legislature and it began its educational services. Later in 1986, the institution got its accreditation as St Mary’s University. The university is affiliated with sporting organizations such as U Sports, and Atlantic University Sport (AUS). 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses 

The 80-acre SMU campus is located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and features numerous landmark buildings and large green spaces. It has excellent infrastructure as well as a wide range of amenities. Accounting, sciences, computer science, engineering, cinema studies, finance, business, mathematics, computer science, management, health, and psychology are among the many undergraduates, graduates, co-op education, diploma, certificate, online learning, and extended learning programmes offered by SMU. The university offers a dynamic and academically vibrant platform where you will not only be able to fulfil your educational dreams but will be privileged to experience a socially and culturally diverse community. Along with offering various programs in trending fields, the university also has various centres for fitness, athletics and personal training. St Mary Psychology Association, Students 4 Social Justice, The Pre-Law Club are some of the popular clubs and associations of the university. 

Accomplishments and Alumni

SMU has nearly 50,000 alumni globally, many of whom are well-known. Mayann Francis was the 31st Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Alan Abraham was the 27th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. It also includes Tim Houston (Premier of Nova Scotia), Bob Warner (Ice Hockey Player), Paul Hollingsworth (Canadian Sports Reporter), Robert P.Kelly (CEO of the Bank of New York Melton), Andy Jones (Popular Comedian) among others. 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies 

Saint Mary's University has about 7,000 part-time and full-time students, with 29% of them being international students from 118 countries. One class has an average of 40 students. Every year, SMU confers around 1,500 certificates and degrees. It has 40 educational institutions in 25 countries with which it collaborates. China, Northern Ireland, and the Gambia are just a few of the nations where students can participate in exchange programmes at the university.
