History, Affiliations and Rankings

Selkirk College is British Columbia's oldest rural community college, founded in 1965 after a referendum by local taxpayers to provide a close-to-home post-secondary option. The university first opened its doors in Castlegar, Canada in 1966, with 458 students enrolled in four programmes: University Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Forest Technology, and Electronics. It is a fully accredited public college in the post-secondary education system of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is affiliated with the Colleges and Institutes Canada, Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, Canadian Bureau for International Education and CUP. Selkirk College is among the top institutions in the world as per the reports of many renowned organisations. Furthermore, Selkirk College got #8104 world ranking by Webometrics in the category World Ranking of Colleges. It also got positioned as #1933 in the category continental ranking and #111 in the category country ranking.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The campuses are located at Castlegar Campus (Main Campus), Tenth Street Campus (Nelson), Victoria Street Campus (Nelson), Silver King Campus (Nelson), Trail Campus and Grand Forks Campus. Selkirk College, nestled in the stunning scenery of southern British Columbia, offers more than 60 nationally recognised programmes to more than 2,800 full-time students each year through certificate, diploma, bachelor's degree, co-operative education, and continuing education programmes. The classroom size of first-year is small, making it the perfect place to learn and grow.

Accomplishments and Alumni

The alumni of the college are change-makers and are showing their capabilities all around the world.“The Selkirk College Business Administration Diploma provided me with the skills needed to successfully launch my business.” says Wesley Fakrogha sharing his experience at the college. He is an alumnus of Creating Connections through Entrepreneurship. Another alumni Lynn Trinh says “The program helped me to develop my potential as an artist, especially in film and graphic design. Because of the small classes, I became close with my classmates who are now working alongside me in the industry. It’s exciting to know we got our start together, but have all ended up in really interesting, different places.” She is an independent filmmaker and the Kootenay Screen-Based Industry's first regional program manager.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
