History, Affiliations and Rankings

Since its founding in 1975, North Island College and its students have experienced revolutionary development and growth. Over the past 40 years, more than 155,000 people have taken a course or completed a program at NIC. North Island College Co-operative Education programs are accredited by both national and provincial governing bodies. NIC’s co-op programs are accredited by Co-Operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL). The College is affiliated with CICan and British Columbia Colleges. It is among the top colleges of the world in the field of Healthcare, Trades, Business, Fine Arts and Tourism among others.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

North Island College (NIC) has acknowledged the traditional territories of the combined 35 First Nations of the Nuu-chah-nulth, Kwakwaka’wakw and Coast Salish traditions, on whose traditional and unceded territories the college’s campuses are situated. It has 4 campuses and a learning center. The campuses are located at Campbell Rivers, Comox Valley, Port Alberni and Port Hardy. It offers more than 90 Programs in the range of qualifications including degrees, diplomas and certificates. NIC also offers three Bachelor of Business Administration degrees, with majors in Marketing, Accounting and General Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, in partnership with Vancouver Island University (VIU).

The North Island College marks a tremendous alumni count in the last 40 years. The University has grown into a powerful, diverse network of more than 1,55,000 alumni worldwide.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

The North Island College has a total of 6,314 students enrolled in different programs, out of which 1,012 are indigenous and 419 are international students. It has a long history of attracting international students from all around the globe. The faculty of the College offers help with choosing a major, resume-writing and critiques, practice interviews, career transitions and assessments, Networking, Professional Development, Career events and other services to help students move their careers forward. Many events and webinars are organized by the college on a regular basis to ensure opportunities flow throughout the season for the students.
