Lobachevsky University, officially known as Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod - National Research University or (UNN), was established in 1916 in Nizhny Novgorod ,Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in Russia. In 1916, Lobachevsky University was founded as a People's University. In 1918, the university became the first State Higher Educational Institution of Soviet Russia. During 1930s, the city of Nizhny Novgorod was known as Gorky, hence from 1932 to 1956, the name was of the university was State University of Gorky. Then, in 1956, the name of the university was again changed to Lobachevsky State University of Gorky in order to pay tribute to great Russian mathematician Nikolai Lobachevsky. In 2009 Russian Government awarded the University with the honorable status of National Research University Today, Lobachevsky University has many faculties and institutes including Faculty of Biology; Faculty of Chemistry; Faculty of Philology; Faculty of Economics; Faculty of Finance; Faculty of Social Sciences; Faculty of Law; Faculty of Management and Business; Faculty for International Students; Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics; Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics; Faculty of Physical Education and Sports; Faculty of Physics; Faculty of Radiophysics; Institute of International Relations and World History; Advanced School of General and Applied Physics; Institute of Military Education and Institute of Doctoral Studies. Lobachevsky University offers wide range of programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in Economics, Philology, Business Management and Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, International Relations, Finance, Social Science, Humanities, Law, Cyber Education, Physical Education, Sports Studies, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Applied Physics, Military Education and many others. Today, Lobachevsky University has a main campus situated in Nizhny Novgorod ,Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in Russia. There are over 30,000 students enrolled in Lobachevsky University with the presence of the academic staff of more than 1,900 members. Not just this, Lobachevsky University also has 1200 Candidates of Sciences (PhDs) and over 450 Doctors of Sciences. International students from more than 65 countries. According to the QS BRICS Ranking and THE Impact Ranking, Lobachevsky University is ranked #69 and #301-310 in 2019 .
