This German university dates back to the early 19th century. As one of the oldest premium varsities in the world, it has an overwhelming history. Owing to its prestigious past, it has held a significant position in the higher education sector. 

History

The Humboldt University of Berlin, also known as Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin or HU Berlin, is one of the oldest and most renowned universities in Germany. Its history dates back to 1810 when it was founded by Wilhelm von Humboldt and his brother Alexander von Humboldt. It was established by a royal decree issued by King Frederick William III of Prussia. The university opened its doors for students on August 11, 1810, with four faculties: Theology, Law, Medicine, and Philosophy. During the 19th century, the university expanded rapidly, attracting renowned scholars and becoming a centre of intellectual and scientific excellence.

The early 20th century was marked by significant political and social changes that impacted Humboldt University.  Following World War I and the abdication of the German Emperor, the Weimar Republic was established, and the university faced financial challenges due to economic instability. Furthermore, after World War II, Berlin was divided into East and West, and Humboldt University found itself in East Berlin, under the control of the German Democratic Republic (GDR).

Post-Study Work Permit in Germany

Germany offers a post-study work permit known as the "Aufenthaltserlaubnis zur Arbeitsplatzsuche" or "Job Search Visa" to international students who have completed their studies in Germany and wish to stay and work in the country.
