Cardiff Metropolitan University’s history dates back to 1865 when the School of Art first opened in Cardiff's Old Free Library. They have remained rooted in Wales, the United Kingdom since becoming a university while providing practice-focused and professionally oriented quality education to students from all over the world. The university changed its name several times over the years before becoming what it is known today as Cardiff Metropolitan University. The university is a large coeducational higher education institution that is officially accredited and/or recognised by the Privy Council. Cardiff Met is also affiliated with Association of Commonwealth Universities and Wallace Group. The university is ranked between #1001-1200 in World University Rankings 2022 by Times Higher Education. They are positioned #251–300th in the Young University Rankings 2021. The Guardian 2022 ranks the university at #62 and the Complete University Guide 2022 ranks it at #43 in the UK National Rankings. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

Cardiff School of Art & Design, Cardiff School of Education & Social Policy, Cardiff School of Management, and Cardiff School of Sport & Health Sciences are the academic schools that make up the University, which is spread across two campuses in Cardiff, located in Cyncoed and Llandaff. However, the university intends to reunite the school at the Cyncoed campus following the construction of new facilities. The university's bustling campus with on-campus housing and a newly constructed Campus Centre. The campus has excellent sporting facilities, as well as an on-campus shop, coffee shops, and a refectory. The Students' and Athletics Union's headquarters are also located on campus. The university offers various undergraduate and graduate degree programs to both international and national students. Cardiff Metropolitan University has an established international reputation for providing professional and vocationally oriented programmes, based on a long and proud legacy. A extensive programme of applied research and consulting, as well as the university's close ties with industry, contribute to this reputation. 

Accomplishments and Alumni 

Cardiff Metropolitan University has been awarded the highly prestigious title of UK and Ireland University of the Year 2021 by the Times Higher Education. The award recognises Cardiff Met's achievements throughout the 2019/20 academic year and the ways in which the University has established itself as a progressive values-driven university with an excellent student experience, staff culture and impactful research and innovation. The university is consistently investing in research programs. It has a number of research and enterprise centres, including the Food Industry Centre, the Welsh Centre for Tourism Research, and the National Centre for Product Design and Development Research.

Cardiff Metropolitan is home to approximately 11,000 students, with over 1200 international students from more than 143 countries. The university has 200 sports clubs and societies offering something for everyone. From course-based societies to the Harry Potter Society, and rugby to korfball, the Students’ Union has plenty of options available to help fill spare time and encourage students to try new things. The university's focus on employability and graduate opportunities has ensured that 95% of its graduates enter employment or further study within six months of graduation. The Careers Service is designed to help students by offering one-to-one appointments, events in school and inviting employers onto campus for a range of fairs, forums and presentations.
