In the academic year 2022-2023, there was a 65% increase in applications of international students in the USA. Following, in the next academic year, the country is expecting 61% undergraduate applications and 28% retention which would be the maximum in the recent few years.
The composition of the international student population has witnessed another considerable shift amidst this increase. The US universities are now prioritizing Indian students for education and recruitment programs.
The undergraduate student recruitment for Indians has increased to 57% which is the highest among all other categories. Moreover, graduate student recruitment is at an all-time high of 77% for Indians. This is also a result of the consistent mobility of students from India and their retention.
However, many US institutions are giving special privileges to international students already studying in their high schools. Henceforth, students who are planning early education in the USA are at a better chance to secure admission to universities and getting jobs.
What Does the USA Offer to International Students?
These plans for diversity education in the USA are a result of a continuous increase in the number of valid applicants and also the diverse workforce that the countries are trying to build in certain fields. For the same reason, countries are trying to offer better prospects for education.
After the lift of Covid-19 restrictions, 99% of institutions are carrying out on-campus classes with international students. 66% of these institutions ensure that the classes are attended by international students in person.
On May 11, 2023, Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) announced the termination of Covid 19 flexibilities for all international students. Now, an international student has to attend classes in person if enrolled in a full-time course. Therefore, students are now open to the vast experiences of their study abroad journey.
US undergraduate admissions prioritize other countries such as Vietnam, South Korea, and Brazil with recruitment rates of 48%, 41%, and 40% respectively, apart from India. In terms of graduate recruitment, China follows India with a recruitment rate of 42%, Nigeria with 37%, and Vietnam with 35%.
